1. The Facebook author page: 10 status updates to embrace, 10 to avoid by Novel Publishing Group, LLC. Great post for those of us with an author page or those of us who intend to publish one in the future (or those of us who are slowly working on one while keeping it private until we finally publish our first novel, ahem). Novel Publishing Group also has an entire category of useful articles entitled A Bit of Free Advice: DIY Book Marketing.

.

2. WoMen’s Literary Cafe “offers free promotions to authors, reviewers, bloggers, and editors.” That link is to their Facebook page, you can also follow them on Twitter. (I have ‘liked’ and ‘followed,’ and I can personally attest that they do a lot of promoting.)

.

3. 20 Ways to Improve Your Google+ Knowledge by Social Media Examiner. Another great source of information here on the main site, on … you guessed it! Social media. The Google+ article is for those new to G+, but I found some tips on there that were pretty useful to me as a longtime user (okay, okay, I’ve only had a profile since July. But that’s a long time when you consider that Google+ just recently went public).

.

4. How to Create an Endless Stream of Blog Topics by Sharon Hayes. This is kind of an SEO approach to coming up with topics to blog about – finding what people are searching for, and then using that info to write your posts. It’s a pretty interesting method. You might want to peruse the rest of her site while you’re there.

.

5. Sarah Cypher is doing a four-part blog outlining what she’s learning in a month-long Social Media boot camp. The fourth part isn’t posted yet, but here is Week 1, Week 2, and Week 3. Useful stuff here, and very kind of her to share what she’s learning with her readers. I’ve subscribed.

That’s it for this week, folks. Next week’s theme will focus on novel planning and organization, and just in time for October. What’s October, you say? Well, it’s only the (unofficial) universal month for planning your NaNoWriMo project, of course. You will be participating, right? Right?
